The Park Theater in downtown McMinnville, Tennessee. When it opened in 1939, the Park boasted 1000 seats and a restaurant on each side. The theater had a successful run as a movie house and live entertainment venue until a 1947 fire put it out of commission. The Park was restored and opened again to the public in 1948.
A new technology known as Cinema-Scope came to the Park Theater in the mid-1950s. Some seats were removed to make room for the new screen.
The Park Theater closed its doors in 1986. A Transformers cartoon movie was playing at the time.
A private group has purchased the historic property and is said to be restoring the site. Plans are to turn it into a live entertainment venue and multi-use facility.
